UNL gateway at night with snow

Welcome Back

As February begins and the spring semester is well underway, we want to welcome back our Military & Veteran Success Center community at UNL. This time of year is about renewed focus, momentum, and reconnecting after the winter break. As classes pick up and goals for the semester take shape, we recognize the dedication and perseverance of our military affiliated students and veterans. Whether you are balancing coursework, career planning, or personal responsibilities, your resilience continues to inspire our campus community. Remember that the MVSC is here to support you every step of the way with resources, guidance, and a welcoming space. We are excited for what this semester holds and grateful to have you as part of our UNL community.

Welcome, Ryan Kaufman

Ryan Kaufman recently joined the Military/Veteran Success Center as a Military and Veteran Affairs Benefits Specialist, bringing more than 15 years of public service experience shaped by his background as a Global War on Terror U.S. Army veteran and work in federal and nonprofit sectors focused on mental health. A PhD candidate at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Ryan earned an MBA with an emphasis in leadership from Doane University in 2018 and has received multiple teaching awards and nominations at UNL for his work as a teaching assistant, instructor of record, and research assistant. Although his academic focus centers on research methods, policy impact, and a dissertation exploring contextual factors influencing 12-step participants and mandated drug-court attendees, Ryan finds his greatest impact in working directly with students and fellow veterans. His work has also been published in outlets such as the Headstrong Project’s Words of War and Task & Purpose. Outside of his professional and academic roles, Ryan values time with his two daughters, Eden and Sawyer, and lives by a mantra rooted in service, community, and showing up for others both near and far.
