Husker Student Power

Husker Student Power Military and Veteran Success Center

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a long history of honoring and serving student veterans. From General Pershing, UNL ROTC instructor and second ever General of the Armies of the United States, to our modern day leaders, our obligation to honor our values is the hallmark and symbol of excellence that transcends the potential that student veterans bring to UNL.

P- PURPOSE

The MVSC gives students a sense of purpose in the military community. The Center provides military-connected students a place to feel like they have a purpose and space within the community and take advantage of the services offered. The MVSC offers opportunities for students to find purpose in organizations or resources through events such as Information and Career Fairs (pictured above).

O- OWNERSHIP

Students can exemplify ownership by attending tutoring when needed and using the office’s resources. This allows for them to be a more active participant in their future, as well as having to be an advocate for themselves with VA benefits. The MVSC offers tutoring Monday Thursday from 4:30-7:30 PM and support for VA benefits from 8 AM- 4:30 PM.

W- Wellbeing

The MVSC makes CAPS services easily accessible and available to students, as well as contacting students who express concerns about mental health & well-being on their Husker Power survey. The MVSC provides mentors for students and has a CAPS representative available at the center every Tuesday from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. The MVSC also has a Vet Center representative at the center every Tuesday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

E- Encouragement

The MVSC reaches out to students with weekly newsletters and emails to encourage participation or appearance at any and all events that the Center is involved in, as well as events not hosted by the Center that may pertain to Veterans, or other military-connected RSOs. A MVSC representative is also available on East Campus once a week to make it easier for students on both campuses to access services.

R- Relationships

The employees of the MVSC create a family for students. They answer questions as needed, but also enjoy catching up like extended family members. The center becomes a home away from home where the military lifestyle is understood. The MVSC builds relationships with on & off campus partners such as advisors, navigators, Athletics, Career Center, the VA, Vet Center, Learn to Earn and tutoring sponsors.
