For those who have served or are currently serving in the military the resume process can seem like a difficult and daunting task based on your many different expertise areas and global outreach. Presenting your transferable skills will be an important part of you becoming a professional and University Career Services is here to help.

The military has its own way of communicating that is sometimes difficult for those not associated with the military to understand. Take a look at Military Crosswalks produced by O*Net to assist you in translating military jargon into more familiar civilian terms. Below are examples of resumes for the four military services and one representing ROTC:

Interview and Training

Big Interview is an on-demand interview training system to learn interviewing techniques and practice skills in a simulated video interview. Big Interview offers a Veterans section that is built for the fastest growing professions for veterans. Create an account using your email address or contact University Career Services for the access code.

Make an Appointment with University Career Services

University Career Services can assist you to make informed career decisions, gain experience, prepare for the job search, and pursue your career or further education. University Career Services is located in Nebraska Union Room 225 and can be contacted through MyPlan, by calling 472-3145 or visiting for an appointment. University Career Services also has walk-in appointments daily between 10am-4pm.

Learn to Earn Over Lunch

Presented collaboratively by the Military & Veteran Success Center (MVSC) and University Career Services, Learn to Earn Over Lunch is hosted by different employers who are interested in offering internship and career opportunities for student veterans, service members and dependents. Learn to Earn Over Lunch is held on various dates from 11 am - 2 pm during the fall and spring semesters.
